Having recently attended a self defense course for women, my wife learned how very important it is to pay attention to your surroundings. This is almost the golden rule of self defense. Along with being alert it ...is not a bad idea to explore different options in self defense products that offer an additional level of protection. The most popular of these items are Tasers, stun guns, and pepper spray.
|
Tasers are a popular choice for several reasons. One of the big advantages of a Taser is that they can be used from a distance; generally the maximum distance for civilian models is around 15 feet. Another bonus that a Taser offers is that it can be used in a similar fashion as a stun gun, with direct contact. Finally, Tasers have become much easier to carry as they have become smaller and more user friendly over the years
Right now, the latest and greatest Taser on the market is the Taser C2. This Taser has many options that have not been available before. There are more choices when it comes to how long a pulse is, or how long the electric current is going. The C2 gives the user more control.
Sometimes even a reminder about common-sense ways to stay safe is all you may need.
Keep yourself out of dangerous situations. That small voice inside is worth listening too. Many women who have been victims of an assault later stated that they felt something was just not right. Be smart, find something you are comfortable carrying and using, and most of all, be prepared to defend yourself.

Editor's note: Martha Salomaa, an Alabama teacher, shot an intruder who broke into her house in August 2012. She says criminals have a plan and you should too!
(CNN) -- I'm a light sleeper, so when sudden cracking of wood and clashing of metal echoed through my home before dawn on August 14, 2012, my feet were immediately on the bedroom floor.
I ran into the family room believing that a recently adopted stray cat must have knocked something off a table. What I found was a man dressed only in boxer shorts standing between me and the hall that goes to my daughters'

bedrooms. I yelled at the man, and when he turned to face me, his eyes were flat, vacant, dead. A mother knows when her children are in danger, and I knew.

Ever wonder when you check into your hotel room just how well its been cleaned from the previous night's occupant? We assume the maid has cleaned everything, including changing the sheets and disinfecting the bathroom. But a hidden camera investigation revealed that may not always be the case.
The Rossen Reports team booked rooms for two nights at some of the most popular hotel chains and rigged them with cameras (all three of the hotels were in northeastern New Jersey). In each case they put soda in the glasses, threw towels on the bathroom floors and made the rooms looked used before calling to have housekeeping make them up, as well as prominently displaying the card requesting that all linens be changed.

Women buying stun guns, pepper spray or protection sticks called Kubotans is nothing new, but how they're being sold is. Maria van Rossum is one of 20 active sales representatives i...n Las Vegas for Idaho-based Damsel in Defense, the women's self-defense version of Tupperware, Avon and Mary Kay that's growing since its founding three years ago. It has more than 7,000 reps nationwide.
“The reality is one of five women will be sexually assaulted in their lifetime,” said Mindy Lin, co-founder of the company with Bethany Hughes, both victims of a sexual assault. “It's very personal to both of us but makes us passionate in the sense that the statistics are so high. We both have daughters, and we want to make a difference with women in their ability to prepare themselves and arm themselves.”

Every semester of every year you can read hundreds of reports where a woman was physically assaulted on campus. While colleges and universities have tried to step up security patrols, especially at night, reports of attacks and attempted rape continue to persist. While there are precautions a woman can take to lessen the chances of becoming a victim, one of the best weapons she can have at her disposal when confronted in a threatening situation is a shot of pepper spray. A less than $20, the MACE Keyguard Pepper Spray is compact, convenient, and has a key ring that easily attaches to your house, dorm room, car, and other keys you carry. Be alert, be cautious, and be prepared.

If you don't, you soon might. A range of new technology means you can now
keep kids under surveillance 24/7 but is this good parenting, or Orwellian
overkill?
Spy cameras aside, there are powerful voices supporting parental surveillance.
The perceived danger is not simply that teenagers can be crafty and prone to
risk taking but also naïve and trusting enough to give away personal information
without thinking of the consequences. It is this more than anything that is driving
parents to surveillance solutions.
